Frequently asked questions
How often should my air-conditioning be serviced?
We recommend that you have your domestic air conditioning maintained at least once a year. For commercial buildings we recommend yearly, six monthly or even quarterly! This is to ensure you are kept within the warranty periods and to maximise the efficiency of your system..
How long does it take to install?
We aim to install within 1 working day depending on pipe routes and lengths. However, if you have purchased multiple rooms it can run into several days. This includes full commissioning and electrical works (if required).
How much does it cost?
Pipe Length: Long distances between units increase material costs.
Property Size: Larger or multi-story homes require higher BTU outputs.
Accessibility: Difficult roof or high-wall mounts require scaffolding.
Refrigerant Lines: Complex routing through walls requires structural disruption.

Common Questions
Do I need planning permission for air conditioning?
Planning permission usually isn't needed for a home air conditioning install. You're more likely to need it if you live in a flat, a listed building, or a conservation area, or if the outdoor unit is going on a front-facing wall. Rules vary by local authority, so it's always worth checking with yours before booking — we're happy to point you in the right direction if you're not sure.
Can I choose where the outdoor unit is located?
Yes. During your quote you can tell us whether you'd prefer the outdoor unit at the back, side, or front of your property, and whether it sits on the ground or is wall-mounted. We'll always aim for the position that gives the best performance and the tidiest finish, and we'll talk it through with you before the install date.
Can air conditioning help me sleep better?
Yes — keeping a bedroom at a steady, comfortable temperature makes a real difference to sleep quality, especially during warmer months. Most modern systems also filter dust and pollen out of the air, which can help too.
Can I install the air conditioning myself?
No — air conditioning systems have to be installed by an F-Gas certified engineer, which is a legal requirement in the UK. Every Polar Edge installation is carried out by our certified team as standard, so this is always included in your price.
Do air conditioning units need servicing?
Yes. Regular servicing keeps your system running efficiently and helps protect your manufacturer's guarantee. If you'd like this taken care of automatically, our Priority AC Service Plan covers an annual service, a full system health check, and priority booking for future appointments.
Does my air conditioning come with a guarantee?
Yes. Every unit we install comes with a manufacturer's guarantee, typically five to seven years depending on the model, alongside our own Fixed Price Guarantee — the price you're quoted is the price you pay, with no surprises on the day.
Can I spread the cost of my installation?
Yes. You can secure your install date with a deposit today and pay the balance only once the job is complete, or pay in full upfront if you'd prefer — the choice is yours, right up to the moment you book.
Who can get air conditioning installed by Polar Edge?
We install across a 60-mile radius of our Diss, Suffolk depot, covering residential homes and small offices. If your postcode falls outside that area, we can usually still help — just get in touch and we'll point you to one of our trusted installation partners.

How much does air conditioning cost to run?
This is a question we get the most. A 2.5kw air conditioning system only requires 0.75kw of Power. What does that mean?
0.75kw x £0.32p per hour = £0.24p per hour get's used!
This means for a 8 hour day/night of cooling or heating, that's approximately £1.92 a day.
Subject to change, manufacturer, model and installation type :)
